Table tennis pioneer Sreeja Akula is all set to cause big upsets

Table tennis runs in the Akula family. Sreeja’s father Praveen Kumar and her elder sister Ravali are both former players. She had made waves with two gold medals at the South Asian Games in 2019, at just 21, but the following years have not seen those waves turn into waves.

It was not until 2022 that she reached the zenith of her abilities, starting with a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, alongside the legendary Achanta Sharath Kamal.

Now that Sharath was the flag bearer for India at the opening ceremony, being the first TT player to receive the honour, Sreeja cannot contain her emotions.
