Eight-month-old Mabli died four days after the accident outside Withybush Hospital

A woman has appeared in court accused of causing the death of an eight-month-old baby in an accident outside a hospital.

Mabli Cariad Hall, from Neath, died four days after a car hit her pushchair outside Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on June 21, 2023.

Bridget Carole Curtis, 70, of Begelly, Pembrokeshire, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

She pleaded no contest and was bailed to appear at Swansea Crown Court on September 20.

An inquest heard in 2023 that Mabli was in her pushchair outside the hospital at the time of the accident and died four days later at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children from a severe traumatic brain injury.

Her father, Rob, was also injured in the incident and was in court for the short hearing, along with Mabli’s mother, Gwen.

They left the courthouse holding a stuffed animal, surrounded by their extended family.

Mabli's family left the courthouse holding a stuffed animal. Two women wearing black dresses and light-coloured cardigans walked down the stairs. One of them held a stuffed animal in her right hand, which was also held by a bald man wearing beige trousers and a jacket and a black top. Six other family members walked behind them, wearing coats.

In a tribute following Mabli’s death, his family said: “Our family life has changed forever and to this day we are still trying to come to terms with what happened.

“We will never forget the love and support shown to us and to the memory of our precious angel, Mabli Cariad.”

In June, the family laid flowers at the spot where Mabli was fatally injured, exactly one year after the incident.
