Crystal Palace consider Arsenal move for Eddie Nketiah – Striker's proposed move to Nottingham Forest 'cancelled'

As reported by David Ornstein of The AthleticCrystal Palace are now considering a move for Eddie Nketiah after the player’s proposed move to Nottingham Forest fell through.

A deal of up to £30m was previously in place between Arsenal and Forest for the Englishman, however, an agreement could not be reached with Nketiah himself, and Forest are now set to focus their intentions on signing Santiago Giménez from Feyenoord instead.

As such, Palace are now looking to approach the Gunners for their striker, who the Eagles have already spoken about a potential transfer for earlier in the summer, due to their “long-standing admiration” for Nketiah.

The 25-year-old also saw a potential deal with Olympique Marseille fall through this month.as the French club were unable to meet Arsenal’s terms. But he is still expected to leave the Emirates Stadium before the window closes as he seeks more game time than he has received under Mikel Arteta since his contract extension at Arsenal two years ago.

At that point, the once-capped England international was coming off a season in which he scored five goals in eight starts and 21 Premier League appearances. That rate – a goal every 165 minutes – is better than his subsequent performances, having managed just five goals in 10 starts last season, and four in nine in the 2022/23 campaign.

However, with Nketiah hitting a record 16 goals in 17 appearances for England Under-21s, he is clearly acquiring a natural goalscoring instinct.

That would be helpful for Palace, who have only scored via an own goal in their two defeats to Brentford and West Ham so far this season, and are therefore looking to strengthen their attacking options alongside Jean-Philippe Mateta.
