TLC Cancels Shows After T-Boz Hospitalized With Abdominal Blockage

TLC’s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins is recovering after suffering a medical emergency.

The iconic girl group, consisting of Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, was forced to cancel their Aug. 23 performance at the New York State Fair just 30 minutes before the show was set to begin because T-Boz suffered a “severe abdominal blockage,” according to a statement from event organizers.

“Shortly after arriving in Syracuse, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins experienced sudden and severe nausea, vomiting and intense abdominal cramping,” read the statement, which was reposted on TLC’s official Instagram account. “She was immediately seen by a doctor and then taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”

The doctor confirmed that it was not food poisoning, but an abdominal blockage. Tionne deeply regrets having to cancel these shows and sincerely apologizes to all her fans and the organizers of the event. The decision to cancel was made on the advice of her doctor, who asked her to stay in hospital overnight to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of her condition.

The press release, which also noted the cancellation of the group’s August 24 performance at Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, states that TLC is “committed to rescheduling” the concerts. T-Boz reiterated that decision on her own Instagram page, where she re-shared the statement with a hopeful caption.

“I’m feeling better!!!” she wrote Saturday. “It was just one of those unexpected events that I had no control over! I can’t wait to catch up with you all… and hopefully get out of the hospital soon!!! Hopefully tomorrow!”

Representatives for TLC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Weekly EntertainmentRequest for additional comments and updates.

Following the announcement of Friday’s cancellation, which came half an hour before the 8:00 p.m. show was set to begin, disappointed fans wearing merchandise were photographed leaving the Suburban Parl venue. The band was set to repeat the success of their 2022 NYS Fair performance, which drew a crowd of 30,000.

This is the second time this year that TLC has been forced to cancel a concert due to a health issue. Last May, the duo postponed four concerts in Canada after tour members, including T-Boz, came down with the flu.

TLC, a duo formed since the 2002 death of member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, said at the time: “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Your support means a lot to us, and we look forward to the opportunity to perform for you in the near future. We love you and we’ll see you soon.”
