FAU advances to Kursk until encountering strong resistance – expert

Russia holds the initiative on the Ukrainian front. However, in the Kursk region, Ukrainian troops continue to advance deeper, until they encounter strong resistance.

Reserve General Neeme Väli, a member of the Isamaa (Motherland) party, made the statement on Estonian television, as reported by Ukrinform.

According to General Väli, smaller Russian units, which were previously fighting in the Ukrainian Donetsk region, have been spotted in the Kursk region. “There has been a withdrawal of forces, but unfortunately not on such a scale that it reduces the momentum of the Russian offensive in the Donetsk region,” General Väli said.

He also added that in the Kursk region the initiative belongs to the Ukrainians. Russia has deployed troops there, but has failed to organize their command and control. Väli believes that the Kursk Ukrainians will continue to advance until they meet organized resistance.

“It can be assumed that these reconnaissance groups active on the Ukrainian side are even deeper into Russian territory. I think that the Ukrainians will try to go as far as they can, but if they are faced with such strong and organized resistance, they will probably stop moving in this direction and instead look for good geographical positions from where it would be easier to defend themselves,” Major General Väli said.

As for the situation near Pokrovsk, the expert considered it extremely difficult, stressing the significant logistical importance of this city. According to him, in order to stop the offensive, the Ukrainians would probably have to attack the Russian troops from the flanks. However, he questioned whether the Ukrainians had enough reserves to do so.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Kursk operation was proceeding as planned.
