UFC 309: Dana White Announces Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic Fight – “Two of the Baddest Guys in the World”

Jon Jones will face Stipe Miocic in a highly anticipated UFC heavyweight title showdown at UFC 309 in New York City on Saturday, November 16.

The duo headlines a mouthwatering card, which includes a lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira as the co-main event.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news in a statement to X, saying: “On Saturday, November 16, we return to Madison Square Garden in New York City for UFC 309.

“In the main event, undefeated heavyweight champion, the greatest of all time and the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Jon Jones, takes on former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

“Jon Jones is the youngest UFC champion, a two-division world champion, the most title-winning champion and looking to beat the greatest heavyweight of all time: Stipe Miocic.

“Two of the baddest guys in the world face off in the baddest division in combat sports to determine who is the best heavyweight.

“In the co-main event, two of the most exciting men to ever fight in the lightweight division will meet again in a rematch of their wild 2021 title fight, with No. 2 ranked Charles Oliveira taking on No. 6 ranked Michael Chandler in a five-round fight to become the number one contender.”

The news will be of great interest to interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who retained the title with a win over Curtis Blaydes in July.

He said: “In my opinion, I am the best heavyweight in the world.

“I’m not getting rewarded for that. They’re holding the belt hostage and Jon Jones loves it. He loves that Dana is doing every interview he can (to talk about him).

“You talk about bantamweight, and Dana White turns the tables and starts talking about how good Jon Jones is.

“I’m like, ‘If he’s that good, let’s fight.’ I’m the No. 1 heavyweight right now. Let’s put it all on the line and see who’s better. Me or Jon.”
