Ujjain woman raped on pavement in broad daylight, videos publicly recorded

A viral video from Ujjain has sent shockwaves across the state. The video shows a woman being raped on a pavement in broad daylight and no one comes to her rescue. People preferred to watch the brutal incident as silent spectators and many even filmed it. Taking notice of the incident, the MP police responded swiftly and arrested the perpetrator.

A relationship turned into trauma

The 40-year-old woman is a rag-picker and mother of an 18-year-old son, while the accused is 28. According to reports, she left her family eight years ago and came to Ujjain where she met the accused named Lokesh who is a grocer.

The woman told the police that she and Lokesh were in a relationship and that he had promised to marry her and spend his entire life with her. It was because of this trust that he made her drink and raped her on the side of the road. The incident took place on Wednesday, September 6, in a busy area.

No complaints from the victim

It is to be noted that the victim did not file a complaint against the incident, but the police came to know about the incident through the videos that were circulated. Lokesh was arrested and an FIR was filed against him.

Rahul Gandhi, MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took to X (Twitter) to express his concerns over the issue. In his tweet, he called this act of brutality against women a defilement of humanity.
