Sabine Fire and Rescue Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Facility

LIBERTY CITY, Texas (KLTV) – As an East Texas community grows, so does the need for first responders.

“Sabine Fire and Rescue” in Liberty City will enter a new era with a brand new building.

“This station will allow us to have 24-hour staffing with firefighters and emergency medical personnel. It will also house our dispatch center,” said Sabine Fire Chief Richard Sisk.

This “station” is a new $3.4 million, 10,000 square foot facility located at the original location on FM 1252.

“Being able to provide the resources to our fire and rescue units so we can provide those emergency services in this area is critical,” said Greg Colquitt, ESD-2 President.

The Liberty City area has seen growth in businesses and residents over the past decade, and more services were needed to accommodate that growth.

“As the community grows, our call volume increases,” the chief explains.

“When someone stops breathing, you only have a certain amount of time to get someone there and start treatment before it’s too late. It’s more than just a medical issue, it’s more than just a fire, it’s the safety of the entire community,” said Daniel Head, chairman of the board of directors for Sabine Fire and Rescue.

Operating from two locations over the years, they were running out of space and needed a new facility to store their workforce, equipment and trucks.

“The creation of Gregg County ESD-2 in 2014 is what made this day possible,” Sisk said.

Ensure emergency response in the future.

“It took time, it took a lot of teamwork,” Richard says.

The installation is expected to be completed around next September.
