Kate Gosselin’s Son Collin Accuses Her of Abuse

Kate Gosselin’s Son Collin Accuses Her of Abuse

Collin Gosselin, one of eight children of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” stars Jon and Kate Gosselin, has come forward with new allegations of abuse against his mother.

In an interview with the US Sun published Monday, Collin Gosselin claimed that when he was younger, his mother “tied his hands and feet together” and kept him isolated from his siblings in a “containment room” monitored by cameras in the basement of the family home.

“My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the basement,” Collin Gosselin, now 20, told the newspaper. “She had a room built with cameras, a little window in the corner and it was locked from the outside.”

While Collin Gosselin did not specify when the alleged abuse began, he said the treatment he suffered became more extreme when he was around 8 or 9 years old. He said he often spent “most of the day” in the confinement room and was eventually “removed from school” when he began reporting the abuse to his teachers.

“My mother became very often and most of the time physically and verbally aggressive, and she was very violent in her words,” he said. “And that obviously has an emotional impact, because a young child doesn’t know how to do any better. So it was a very, very emotionally abusive relationship.”

Collin Gosselin’s allegations were corroborated by Jon Gosselin, who said the abuse began after he and Kate Gosselin split in 2009 after 10 years of marriage.

“I never knew she (Kate) had targeted Collin, the basement and the plastic ties until much later,” Jon Gosselin told the US Sun. “That kind of thing didn’t happen until after I left.”

So far, Kate Gosselin has not publicly responded to Collin Gosselin’s new accusations. But Richard Puleo, her lawyer, rejected the idea that she ever did anything to “intentionally harm” her son.

“She did what she did to protect herself and her family” from Collin Gosselin’s “troubling behavior,” he said.

“Jon & Kate Plus 8,” later known simply as “Kate Plus 8,” aired from 2007 to 2017. The reality show chronicled the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin as they raised their atypical family of sextuplets and twins in Pennsylvania.

In 2023, Collin Gosselin came forward with similar allegations of abuse against Kate Gosselin on an episode of Vice TV’s “Dark Side of the 2000s.” On the show, he said his mother sent him to a mental health facility in an attempt to silence him about his behavior.

“I started telling people what was going on at home,” he said at the time. “And, you know, she got wind of it and had to put me in a place where I couldn’t tell my secrets.”

Kate Gosselin responded to Collin Gosselin’s allegations in 2023 with a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram account. Her son’s visit to a mental health facility, she wrote at the time, was the result of a suggestion from medical professionals following “one of his many attacks/seizures – this one involving the use of a weapon.”

“Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who still needs a lot of help,” she added. “His siblings and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his erratic behavior and violent tendencies toward us.”
