Megan Thee Stallion’s 2024 MTV VMAs Looks Include a Tribute to Britney

I want to personally thank whoever decided to nominate Megan Thee Stallion as the host of the 2024 MTV VMAs. A true entertainer, she kept the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the show with her wit and hot-girl charm. More importantly, she served up one look after another—seven of them, to be exact.

The “Mamushi” rapper hit the black carpet on Wednesday, September 11, in an outfit that was reminiscent of last year’s little black dress, but with a more chic twist. Throughout the night, her looks kept getting better and better, each paying homage to music legends (like Beyoncé and Britney Spears).

Here are all of Megan’s looks from the show, including her return to “I’m A Slave 4 U” and one last risqué little black dress of the night.

Meg’s transparent strapless dress

The biggest stars in fashion, including Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter, attended the event in iconic numbers. But the host proved her fashion prowess with her first look of the night.

The rapper wore a strapless dress that was sheer at the thighs but opaque through the bodysuit. But it was her skirt that really made a splash. The bottom half of her dress was constructed with an exaggerated mermaid cut, complete with a cinched “belt” around the knees. It was a sculptural work of art.

Her Olympic-inspired leotard looked familiar.

She kicked off the show in an asymmetrical bodysuit that fans have seen on Beyoncé before. In July, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer showed off her patriotism in a similar one-piece featuring the word “USA” spelled out in rhinestones and stars and stripes inspired by the American flag.

Megan looks different in a few ways: the placement of the Star Spangled-inspired elements and her acronym “VMA” instead of “USA.” Referring to the Olympics in her speech, she said, “I deserve a gold medal for being a bad bitch.” She deserves it.

Look #3 pays tribute to Britney Spears

Several MTV VMA guests paid tribute to Britney Spears, the undisputed queen of the event. But no one did it better than Meg. She wore a near-identical replica of Spears’ iconic 2001 outfit to perform “I’m A Slave 4 U.” Yes, the one with the yellow snake.

Meg took to the stage in a similar lime green bra and iridescent hotpants. Iconically, she also appeared with a live yellow snake wrapped around her. Although she “tried to hold it back for Britney,” she quickly ditched the reptile when it proved far too scary.

Her second bustier

When she wasn’t referencing legends, she wore pieces that very few fashion icons can pull off, like this structural trompe l’oeil masterpiece. The look was standard on top—if you can call a glowing strapless bustier “standard.”

The skirt, however, resembled a trench coat worn low on the waist, with the collars sticking out past her hips.

His cheeky performance “Fit

To perform “BOA,” “BAS,” “Hiss,” and “Mamushi,” Meg stripped down to leather underwear in a creamy butter yellow (aka the color of the year 2024).

To keep the lingerie look interesting, she had fabric straps snaking around her legs, waist and cleavage, a not-so-subtle nod to the snake imagery from her album.

She became a real gladiator

After Beyoncé and Britney, who else should we pay tribute to? Herself. She stepped out in the daring gladiator outfit she wore in her recent Pepsi ad: a metal bra, pleated miniskirt, thigh-high gladiator boots, arm warmers and a stick.

Putting yourself on stage? That’s the real gesture of a “sexy girl”.

Her little transparent black dress

She ended the night in another little black dress, this time closer to last year’s thong style.

Instead of a simple, sheer fabric, her strapless fabric was covered in strategically placed pearls (i.e., her breasts and crotch).
