Two North Charleston hotels near I-26 set to open in 2025 | Business

Two hotels under construction near Tanger Outlets in North Charleston plan to open next year.

An eight-story, 252-room hotel, the Drury Plaza, is under construction at 2934 W. Montague Ave., and is expected to open in July. The Drury in North Charleston will be the second hotel in South Carolina to fly the flag. The Drury Plaza in Greenville was built in 2007.

The North Charleston location has been added to the brand’s booking website and is now accepting reservations for July 1, 2025 and beyond.

The property is located just off I-26, close to the shopping corridor, the Charleston Area Convention Center, the North Charleston Coliseum and the Charleston International Airport.

St. Louis-based Drury Development Corp. purchased the 4-acre property in 2018 for $7.5 million. The project broke ground earlier this year.

“Charleston is a thriving city, rich in history, culture and Southern hospitality,” said Chuck Drury, CEO of Drury Hotels, noting that these are aspects that both business and leisure travelers seek.

Drury added that the convenience of the hotel’s location along with “the incredible food, museums, entertainment and historical attractions that Charleston offers” is another plus.

The hotel will feature 3,600 square feet of meeting space for up to 400 attendees and a restaurant for casual dining, quick bites and cocktails. It will also offer an outdoor pool and spa, business and fitness centers and daily breakfast.

As construction continues, the hotel will soon begin recruiting efforts in the Charleston market to hire approximately 70 full-time and part-time employees.

Nearby, construction is also underway on a four-story, 123-room Element by Marriott Charleston Airport hotel at 4865 N. Arco Lane. Greenville-based Arco Lane Hospitality, which shares the same address as Contender Development, bought the 2-acre property for $3.5 million in 2022, more than three times the price it fetched in 2018.

This upscale, extended-stay hotel will feature a restaurant and other amenities such as a 24/7 fitness center, an all-natural outdoor saline pool and 500 square feet of meeting space.

An opening date is planned for the second quarter of 2025, according to the company.

Adam Plous, chief operating officer of Contender Development, said in a statement that there is a lot of anticipation to “bring the Element brand to Charleston” with its central location near Charleston International Airport.

Hospitality America has been appointed as its operating partner.

Hospitality America CEO Ben Campbell said Charleston’s reputation earned through rankings by Conde Nast and Travel + Leisure magazines makes it a desirable and “ideal” market for travelers and brands like Element.

“Extended-stay hotels are growing in popularity because they offer more convenience and value than select-service brands by targeting a niche segment of the travel industry,” Campbell said.

The search for a general manager is currently underway, according to Hospitality America.
