(CBS DETROIT) – Pittsfield Township man charged Friday’s Home Invasion which resulted in the death of Susan Hammerton, 81.

The Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety said the 40-year-old man is charged with murder, assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion, assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, battery and second-degree cruelty to animals. The charges were authorized by the Washtenaw County prosecutor.

Pittsfield officials said the man was denied bail at his court appearance Saturday afternoon.

An 82-year-old man and a dog were seriously injured in the attack. Both were in stable condition on Saturday.

According to the Pittsfield Police Department, officers responded to the home invasion just after midnight in the 1900 block of Breckland Drive.

When officers arrived, they found the elderly couple had suffered stab wounds. The victims were taken to a local hospital, where Hammerton died.
