Reacher star Alan Ritchson’s new film is ‘practically a silent movie’

In an interview with ColliderFoster revealed that the film will feature a little less talking and a little more action. “The film itself, The city of the automobile — we just finished — is practically a silent film,” he shared. “There are five lines of dialogue.

“Jack White is involved in the music, so it’s like a disco rock revenge movie. It’s like a graphic novel, so it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out,” Foster added.

Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, The city of the automobile will feature a mix of diverse genres. Jon Berg, president of production at Stampede Ventures, described it as “somewhere between an opera, a music video and an action movie.”

Discussing the lack of dialogue, Berg explained that nonverbal communication plays a significant role in the film.

“The emotion is conveyed without language being essential; the actors’ performances are at the forefront,” he said. “Potsy has an incredible vision for the film: dynamic camerawork, brilliant music, muscle cars and immersive sound design surrounding awesome action sequences.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Foster praised Ritchson for his ambitious spirit. “He’s very tall, very muscular and very handsome,” Foster joked of his co-star. “He’s a great driver. I think he wants to do deeper work or a different kind of work than he’s done before, and he’s a joy.”

Reacher is streaming on Prime Video.
