Woman arrested for attempted murder in Jasper

JASPER, Ind. (WFIE) – Jasper Police Department officials say a woman is in custody after being charged with attempted murder.

According to a news release, officers were dispatched at 11:45 a.m. Sunday after receiving calls about a man with blood on his clothes and a head injury.

Authorities say the male victim was walking near the entrance to the 15th Street Promenade in Jasper.

The victim called 911 and told emergency responders that a woman, later identified as Clara Whippo, had hit him with a metal object and he suffered a head injury.

The victim was taken to hospital for his injuries.

Officers said they began searching for the woman in the farm field just northeast of the 15th Street entrance to the River Walk.

Whippo was eventually located by K9 Gator during the race and taken into custody.

She is charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, aggravated assault and battery, animal neglect and criminal trespass.

Whippo is being held at the Dubois County Security Center.
