Zetterlund Says Sharks Are ‘Special,’ Wennberg Talks Musty’s Skills, Grundstrom Talks Grier’s Message

San Jose is starting to look more and more like Stockholm.

With William Eklund and Fabian Zetterlund cementing themselves as the San Jose Sharks’ top players last season, Alex Wennberg and Carl Grundstrom joining this offseason, and recent high-profile picks like Filip Bystedt and Leo Sahlin-Wallenius, the Swede contingent is growing.

Zetterlund, Wennberg and Grundstrom all recently made their first training camp appearances. Wennberg explained that the team can be tough to play against, Zetterlund promoted teammate Will Smith and Grundstrom shared recent messages from the staff to the players.

Fabian Zetterlund

Zetterlund on the hype surrounding this year’s training camp:

It’s always exciting when the season starts up again. It feels like something special. We always say that, but this year it feels really special. I’m really excited to get things moving.

Zetterlund on what he worked on over the summer:

I have to stay on the ice longer. Special teams, 6-on-5, 5-on-6.

When I’m tired, I just use my brain. By being smart, I can stay longer, maybe 20 seconds longer or something. That’s what I’ve been working on a lot.

And then I’m working on my edges, trying to be a smoother skater. And my shot, I’m still working on that every day.

Note: Zetterlund also shared that he completed a 600-pound deadlift during an offseason workout.

Zetterlund on Will Smith’s quality:

I wasn’t surprised. I knew he was going to serve me and that’s what he did. He also took a few shots on his own and it went well. He’s going to be a hell of a player and he’s already a great hockey player.
