Open House Held to Consider Minneapolis Sailing Center’s Relocation to Bde Maka Ska

Sailing could find a new home on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board held an open house on the lake Monday afternoon to gather feedback on a proposal to move the Minneapolis Sailing Center from the northeast shore to the northwest shore of the lake.

Renderings show what the new center would look like:

This measure should help reduce congestion in the north-eastern corner of the lake.

“We’ve outgrown our facility here,” said Ted Salzman of the Minneapolis Sailing Center. “We’re looking at potential ideas for what this could look like. What are our space needs, what would the design of the site look like, what do we and the park board need to do to make this happen.”

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board hopes to have a final plan and cost for the project by the end of the year.

An online survey about the project is open until October 11.
