MPs offered Ksh5 million to sign my impeachment motion: DP Gachagua

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua addresses residents of Mwea in Kirinyaga County on Saturday September 28, 2024.

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed his detractors are determined to oust him from office, saying MPs are being offered Ksh5 million to formally support the impeachment motion.

Addressing residents of Mwea in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua revealed that his opponents attempted to bribe County Rep. Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango, whom he noted refused in defiance.

He added that such attempts would not stop him from fighting for the Kenyans who elected him.

“Njeri was called and they tried to sell her fear by telling her to sign for my impeachment but she refused. She was told to take Ksh5 million but she refused. Senator James Murango said is also seen offering money but he refused,” he said.

The DP shifted its focus to its boss, President William Ruto, calling on him to refrain from launching the impeachment motion.

Gachagua and his allies accused the president of orchestrating his ouster behind the scenes by pulling the strings of several MPs to advance the motion in Parliament.

“I was elected by the people of Kenya, not by the president. The president and I were elected on the same list and you chose Ruto because I was there. If Gachagua wasn’t there, you wouldn’t “I wouldn’t have chosen,” Gachagua said. .

“If he is tired of Mount Kenya votes, let him tell us. We took him as ours and voted for him sincerely. He should stop telling MPs to throw us out of power,” he said. -he added.

In recent weeks, the PD has toured Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region, rallying its supporters behind it.

At a time when his boss is in New York for the UN General Assembly, Gachagua and his allies took the opportunity to denounce dirty laundry within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
