NGOs prepare to mark 7th anniversary of Caruana Galizia assassination

The NGOs Repubblika and Occupyjustice are commemorating the seventh anniversary of the death of Daphné Caruana Galizia by organizing numerous events.

As part of this year’s activities, Repubblika will launch an anti-corruption strategy and manifesto titled “Defending Integrity”, while a new documentary, “Unraveling the Mafia State”, will also be launched.

Events will culminate on October 16 with a silent rally in Bidnija at the time and location of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, followed by an evening protest in Valletta that will begin near Parliament and end with a vigil in the square of the Great Siege.

At the vigil, Françoise Laborde, a prominent French journalist, and Tiberio Bentivoglio, an Italian businessman who survived an assassination attempt, will both give speeches at the event.

Vicki Ann Cremona, president of Repubblika, said that “justice has not yet been done to Daphne Caruana Galizia, and in the meantime, we have a duty to insist. Furthermore, justice has not been done for our country, which still suffers the consequences of the corruption that Daphné denounced.

On behalf of Occupyjustice, Louiselle Vassallo said: “Justice is everyone’s duty,” calling on the public to remember Caruana Galizia through the fight for justice.

Organizers invite the public to participate in these commemorative activities and help cover the costs of the event by making a donation via a crowdfunding site.
