During a Q&A session ahead of the series’ release, Mitchell said that the cast and creatives behind the drama were optimistic that there would be a second season of the series. Louis.

“It’s certainly our hope that it continues,” Mitchell said. “Fingers crossed.”

Mitchell also explained why he was drawn to the series and the role of John, saying he had “always loved” murder mysteries, especially those in the cozy crime subgenre.

“Some of my fondest viewing memories are as a kid, watching Miss Marple with Joan Hickson – I mean, she was in it, she wasn’t in the room,” he joked.

“I think when it can also have a comedic twist, it’s even better, because I like murder mystery puzzles, thrillers, but I don’t like watching things that are gruesome and cruel and which somehow remind you of the fragility of human life.

“I’m going the Agatha Christie route: the person who was murdered, we don’t meet them, we don’t get invested in them, so that’s fine. Agatha Christie is very good, kill an old colonel and the story is that no one loved him, so we could put aside what it means to take a human life.

“Just use it to make a puzzle a little more interesting than if it were a stolen purse.”

Louis is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and broadcast weekly on BBC One.
