Man arrested in connection with attempted child kidnapping in Alabama Piggly Wiggly

A Gadsden man has been arrested in connection with reports of an attempted child abduction.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden announced that Cordell Quenton Brand, 29, has been charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and unlawful possession of prescription drugs.

The arrest follows an incident on September 27. Collinsville Police were dispatched to the area of Piggly Wiggly and Rains Court Apartments.

Police interviewed a minor victim and her family members and developed a description of the person involved in the incident.

Two days later, Collinsville police were called to the Truman Lane Apartments for another problem.

While speaking with subjects at the scene, an officer determined that one of the subjects matched the description of the man from the previous incident. Brand was later arrested.

Welden said the arrest would not have happened without the help of “vigilant community members.”

Brand is being held at the DeKalb County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
