What Jabrill Peppers’ arrest report says about domestic incident and cocaine

New England Patriots star security Jabrill Peppers is accused of strangling a woman inside her apartment and throwing her down the stairs during a fight early Saturday morning — a fight sparked by a phone call, according to court filings.

Peppers, 29, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation, possession of a class B drug (cocaine) and battery on a member of his family or his home.

He was released on $2,500 bail and ordered to stay away and have no contact with the woman after his arraignment in Quincy District Court Monday morning. Peppers has pleaded not guilty.

In his police report filed in court, Officer William Miranda wrote that he was called to Peppers’ Braintree apartment around 4:15 a.m. for a reported domestic dispute.

The caller told police that a man living in the apartment — later identified as Peppers — hit her, choked her, took off her clothes and threw them outside. She said she was choked six times but did not lose consciousness.

When Miranda arrived, he found the woman sitting barefoot on the steps of the unit with her hand over her face. She told Miranda: “(Peppers) put his hand on my neck and smashed my head against the wall. Then he pushed me down the stairs, and that’s how I got hurt,” he wrote.

The woman had scratches on her kneecaps and her forehead was visibly red, according to the report. She told police Peppers was inside the apartment and was unarmed.

While police spoke to the woman outside, Peppers opened the door shirtless, holding a jacket in his hand. He told police, “I know what’s going on,” Miranda wrote.

Police handcuffed Peppers and took him to the police station to be booked.

The woman told police she and Peppers were having sex when someone called her, which upset Peppers who told him to leave his apartment and go home.

Peppers then pushed her out of the bedroom while they were both naked, according to the report. The woman told police Peppers put his hands on her neck and pushed her head against the wall.

Peppers smashed her head against the wall while holding her neck, according to the report. The woman told police she was scared during the incident because Peppers was “crazy and had a serious expression,” Miranda wrote.

After pinning her against the wall, Peppers pushed the woman down the stairs and threw her phone and bag, according to the report. The woman refused medical attention and was given an ice pack.

She declined to seek an injunction against Peppers.

When Peppers arrived at the police station, officers found a plastic bag containing a white substance in his wallet, according to the report. Peppers admitted to possessing cocaine, police wrote. The substance tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

In an interview with police, Peppers told officers the dispute stemmed from an argument over sex, that the woman was “acting erratically” and refused to leave when asked.

Peppers told police the woman “fell down the stairs on her own because she was drunk.” He claimed the woman was making up the story that he threw her down the stairs to ruin her career.

“(Peppers) states he was trying to deescalate the situation and never laid hands on (the woman),” according to the report. “(Peppers) said he should have called the police, but he was trying to send her home and didn’t assault her.”

Miranda wrote that he “did not notice” an odor of alcohol coming from the woman, nor did he notice her slurring words or being unsteady while walking. His eyes were red, but Miranda wrote that he couldn’t determine whether it was from the alcohol or the crying.

At the arraignment, Peppers’ attorney, Marc Alan Brofsky, said the evidence “cast real doubt on the allegations, including the video.”

Peppers’ case will be heard on November 22, but Judge Mark Coven waived his appearance.

Captain, Peppers has been with the Patriots since 2019.
