A man remains missing after two individuals, believed to be paddleboarding, fell into a reservoir.

Divers searched overnight for Simon Daniels, who was named online by friends, after he fell into the water at Dovestone Reservoir, near Oldham, on Sunday.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the incident, which occurred at the scenic spot at around 2.30pm yesterday.

A woman, who also fell into the water, was rescued and later treated by paramedics, according to Greater Manchester Police.

A search operation is underway, with specialist divers, the coastguard and mountain rescue teams present at the scene.

In a statement shared with X (formerly Twitter) last night, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that searches would continue into the night.

“We will not stop our search and are doing everything we can to locate the missing man,” the force said.

In their most recent update, they asked the public to stay away from the location as they continued their search.

They said: ‘Officers were present at Dovestone Reservoir until late last night to search for a man who had entered the water earlier in the afternoon.

“Teams of experts will carry out further assessments this morning as they continue their research, using all appropriate resources available.

‘We ask people to avoid the area while this work is carried out and we thank the public for their continued patience.’

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: ‘Shortly before 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday, October 20), fire crews were called to Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham following reports of a person in water.

‘Two fire engines from Mossley and Stalybridge, an enhanced rescue unit from Leigh, a water incident unit from Eccles, an aerial unit and two drones, including an underwater drone from Lancashire Fire and Rescue, were called to the scene.

‘A drop line was used by a member of the public and one victim was rescued from the water before firefighters arrived. Police helicopter, police, ambulance and mountain rescue also attended.

‘Firefighters were present for approximately four hours and forty minutes.’
