Track and field: SHS girls fifth and boys sixth in championship meet

The Sequim High girls’ track team placed fifth and the boys sixth at the Olympic League meet, held May 2-4 at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.

The SHS girls totaled 136 points, while the boys had 62.5.

Sequim’s Clare Turella won the high jump with a leap of 4-10, while teammate Bailey Stein finished third with a score of 4-4.

Sequim’s Kaitlyn Bloomenrader finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:24.01, a personal best. On May 2, she placed fourth in the 1,600 m with another personal best of 5:30.48.

On the boys’ side, Sequim’s best performance Saturday came from Ari Skov, who finished third in the pole vault with a height of 13-3, a personal best. Teammate Cayden Beauregard was fourth at 12-9 and Sequim’s Brody Anderson fifth at 11-9.

Looking forward

West Central’s 2A bi-district meet is scheduled for May 17-18 at North Mason High School in Belfair.

The top six finishers in the district competition will advance to the Class 2A state competition scheduled for May 23-25 ​​at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
