Man caught throwing MDMA pills during traffic stop, Edgecombe County sheriff says

TARBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was arrested Tuesday after throwing MDMA pills out of a car during a traffic stop, according to deputies with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Tuesday, Corporal Harris and Deputy Ruffin were conducting traffic stops in the 64 Alternative area in Tarboro when they saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the center turn lane.

A traffic stop was conducted and the vehicle stopped at C&S Auto and the sheriff’s office said the driver began throwing items out the driver’s side window.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the items thrown from the vehicle were “Molly” pills, also known as MDMA. The driver, Demon Townsend, was taken into custody without incident.

Sergeant Hyman deployed his K-9 and altered the scent of narcotics. Officers searched the vehicle and found two grams of methamphetamine, additional MDMA pills and marijuana packaged for sale.

Townsend was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell/deliver MDMA, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle with intent to store narcotics.

He was transported to the Edgecombe County Detention Center and given a $20,000 secured bond.
