Eddie Hearn reveals fight canceled due to betting irregularities

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed the shocking news that forced him to cancel a fight due to irregular betting patterns discovered around the contest.

Hearn was promoting an event in Birmingham on Saturday which saw a fight called off at the last minute, with Aqib Fiaz’s clash against Kane Baker canceled and the following statement released by Matchroom Boxing.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker 2 is cancelled. Before The Bell now starts at 4:45 p.m. with the first fight at 5:15 p.m. The DAZN live stream begins at 7 p.m. as originally scheduled.

Hearn has now revealed to Boxing Social the shocking reason for the cancellation, after irregular betting was reported and then investigated by his team.

“There’s no point in trying to keep this a secret in all honesty. I have been informed of irregular betting activity surrounding the fight. Once I got the information, I investigated. I did it myself, I did it with my team, I did it with the gaming commission and I made the decision to give up the fight.

“When I did that I spoke to the British Boxing Board of Control, I told them everything I had done and I said I was going to pull the fight. They agreed with me and it will now be up to them to conduct their own investigation.
