Saskatchewan may consider banning cell phone use in classrooms

Saskatchewan may consider banning cell phone use in classrooms.

The move follows Ontario’s recent announcement of a ban starting this fall. Children in kindergarten to Grade 6 will not be allowed to touch their phones during the school day, while older students will only be allowed to use them during breaks.

Premier Scott Moe says a ban on in-class lessons would help maintain the focus on learning.

“That’s something that I think is fair to say and that not only we but other provinces are looking at as well. You know, really making sure that the learning environment that we have in our K-12 system is focused primarily on that,” he said.

Moe said the discussions they’ve had across the province over the past few months have focused on how to support educators and their students.

“I think you can only have this conversation about providing support by ensuring that we also look at non-financial opportunities to ensure that our children are in the best learning environment possible,” he said. he declares. “I think it’s fair to say that not only Saskatchewan, but other provinces will be looking at this issue as well.”
