New CEO ready to lead AMSA

Kaylene Dale has been appointed as the new CEO of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), effective 1 October 2024.

Dale has extensive experience in Commonwealth regulatory and maritime matters, including working with AMSA Search and Rescue through her role with the Australian Border Force, where she held a number of senior roles, most recently as Assistant Commissioner for Strategy and Capability.

Transport Minister Catherine King said: “I welcome Ms Dale to this role, where her leadership will help us continue to strengthen the vital role AMSA plays in protecting our marine environment, supporting safe navigation and maritime security, and providing a national search and rescue service.

“I look forward to working with Ms Dale and the broader AMSA leadership team as they continue to ensure a safe and environmentally responsible maritime sector in Australia.

“I thank Mr Kinley for his significant service as CEO over the past decade, during which he oversaw a number of achievements in Australian maritime safety. These included addressing the maritime safety challenges posed by the global pandemic and, prior to that, AMSA’s establishment of the National System – Australia’s single regulatory framework for the certification, construction, equipment, design and operation of domestic commercial vessels in our Exclusive Economic Zone.”

Kinley’s leadership extended internationally, leading AMSA to engage closely with the IMO and help other countries improve their safety performance, particularly in the Pacific.
