Rock star sells his Lake Washington home for $8.2 million

Train singer Pat Monahan is ready to part with his Seattle-area lake house.

The singer and his wife, Amber Peterson, first purchased the home in 2011 for $2.95 million. They renovated it to better meet their family’s needs, including adding an elevator that connects all three levels.

“There wasn’t much there,” Monahan told Mansion Global last month. “We did a lot of renovations and we took down the walls to make it a real beach, which is better for the environment.”

The 5,537-square-foot, five-bedroom, five-bathroom split-level home is now on the market for $8.2 million with listing agent Todd Rauch of Windermere Real Estate/Luxury Portfolio International.

Outside, the house is surrounded by tall hedges, lush green grass and trees all around, with a long driveway leading to the attached three-car garage with wooden doors. The house’s large wooden front door is accented with stone pillars, as are the garage doors.

“(They) poured their hearts into this house, creating a home where family and friends come together to celebrate,” Rauch told the outlet. “Their love of the Northwest is visible everywhere.”

Once inside, guests are greeted by a two-story entry with access to two sets of stairs, one leading to the upper level and the other leading to the finished basement, which includes many enviable rooms of the house.

On the main level, guests will find a semi-open floor plan with a connected kitchen and great room, both featuring large windows offering picturesque views of Lake Sammamish.

In addition to the beautiful view, the living room features a wood-burning fireplace, as well as built-in shelving on both sides with space set up for a flat-screen TV on the right side. The bedroom also benefits from access to an outdoor terrace with a small lounge area.

Connected to the living room is the all-wood kitchen with exposed beams arranged in a square pattern. One of the main highlights of the kitchen is the large central island, which also includes additional storage space, a large sink and a small drinks fridge.

Also notable are the two microwave ovens, the dishwasher, the large refrigerator and the double oven, decorated with a ceramic backsplash. It also features unique light fixtures hanging above the center island.

Just steps from the center island is a large window overlooking the lake, with a breakfast nook located directly below, serving as an informal dining area with a view.

Through a wood opening in the kitchen, guests can enter the formal dining room, which features an accent wall with beige wallpaper and white angular patterns. The opposite wall opens onto an outdoor terrace with a second outdoor seating area.

“We never have any speedboats going by. It’s very quiet in this part of the lake,” Monahan told Mansion Global. “It’s going to be hard to leave our home. We have so many incredible memories of raising our children there. There’s a lot of luck, warmth and positive energy there.”

Opposite the dining room is the music room, complete with a second fireplace and colorful paintings. It currently hosts Monahan’s Grammy Awards, as well as other awards for his musical achievements. The room also houses a piano and several guitars.

The house’s five bedrooms are spread across the three levels and each has different features that make them unique. One of the bedrooms has a treehouse-shaped bunk bed, while another has a tree painted on the wall behind the bed.

On the third level is the master bedroom, which has its own private balcony with wonderful lake views. The room also has built-in shelving with fireplace, as well as space for a TV and storage drawers.

Connected to the master bedroom is the luxurious en-suite bathroom, featuring a double vanity, a standing shower, a fireplace, and a deep soaking tub located beneath a large window with lake views.

Elsewhere in the house is the spacious wine cellar, complete with stone archways and tiled floors.

One of the main selling points of the house is the finished basement. The lower level includes a second living room with a wood-burning fireplace. There are also built-in shelves with space set up for a flat-screen TV.

The second living room opens to the backyard, which includes several seating areas, as well as a hot tub and a large grass field.

Also in the basement is a leisure area with a pool table, located next to the house’s second kitchen. The smaller lower level kitchen includes a dishwasher, sink, dining counter, and refrigerator, but does not include an oven.

Aside from the grassy area, the house’s backyard is relatively small, but it doesn’t stop there. The yard has direct access to Lake Sammamish and has its own private dock where owners can shelter their boats.
