An expert guide to a weekend in Milan

Situated at the foot of the Alps, Milan is the financial center and economic engine of Italy, home to the country’s Stock Exchange. It’s also Italy’s most cosmopolitan city, with a modern central district dominated by skyscrapers and a beautiful historic district filled with palazzi (palaces) – each housing wonderful hidden courtyards.

A leader in the Italian fashion and design industry, Milan is filled with stylish boutiques, haute couture stores and showrooms showcasing the latest in Italian design. It is also a historic city – home to the magnificent Duomo and countless art galleries, museums and wonderful churches.

Its food and nightlife scenes are among the most vibrant in the country. Bars line the city’s famous Navigli canals – supposedly designed by Leonardo da Vinci, who called the city his home for several years. Once the work day is over, Milanese people gather in bars across the city for an aperitif – drinks and snacks – before heading home for dinner.
