Two arrested after shots fired after football game at Dover High

DOVER, Del. – Dover police arrested two men Friday night following a large fight and shooting incident that occurred following a football game at Dover High School. The suspects, Kameron Scott, 27, and Tony Benson Jr., 20, both of Dover, were taken into custody after a brief foot chase, police said.

The incident began at 8:59 p.m., shortly after the game ended, when a large fight broke out near the entrance to the school’s football stadium. Police officers, who were already on the scene providing security, responded to the disturbance when they observed Scott fire a gun into the air.

Scott fled the scene but was detained at a nearby apartment complex after a pursuit, police said. Benson Jr., who was also involved in the fight, attempted to flee toward the same complex and was arrested after another chase.

Officers later recovered a Taurus .38 Special pistol in the area where Scott had fled. No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting or the fight.

Dover Police continue to investigate the incident, according to Corporal Ryan Schmid, public information officer for the department.
