Cameras caught Baker Mayfield bursting his nicotine bag backstage

Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay had a rough night on Monday.

The Bucs lost to Baltimore 41-31, with their defense giving up 508 yards, and Tampa’s two big wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, suffered apparently serious injuries.

Mayfield threw two interceptions to contribute to the loss and apparently turned to a popular vice to help calm his nerves.

With the Bucs trailing 17-10 early in the third quarter, ESPN cameras captured Mayfield opening a can of ZYN nicotine pouches and placing one in his mouth.

Baltimore got the ball to start the second half.

ZYNs, which have grown in popularity since they hit the market in 2014, are designed to be an alternative to traditional smokeless tobacco.

They are controversial to some because of the amounts of nicotine they contain, with health experts pointing out their addictive quality, drug entry potential, and unknown long-term effects.

Mayfield may need help moving forward without his two best receivers, but he has had a strong season so far, completing 70% of his passes for 1,859 yards, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Tampa Bay (4-3) hosts Atlanta on Sunday. The Bucs lost to the Falcons, 36-30, on October 3.
