ARPA Funds Allocated to La Crosse Housing Organizations

During Wednesday’s meeting, representatives from several La Crosse housing organizations packed City Hall in anticipation of the commission’s allocation of more than $1.1 million in ARPA funds dedicated to specialized housing capacity.

However, only three of the nine organizations were selected to receive a portion of the funding.

The City of La Crosse’s Community and Economic Development Commission approved a motion in a split vote to give Karuna Housing, CouleeCap and Salvation Army a share of more than $1.1 million to address homelessness.

“The purpose of this request for proposal is to solicit proposals that develop sustainable housing solutions to meet the unique needs of homeless individuals and families, using part funding and leveraging other community sources,” said Jim Drees, Homeless Response Manager. -La Crosse County ceiling.

After meeting with Drees, the commission decided to approve a motion on a 4-2 vote awarding $300,000 to Karuna Housing and $400,000 to CouleeCap and Salvation Army each.

The funds, which are expected to be allocated by the end of the year, were set aside to address the city’s homelessness problem.

The city had previously identified the need for emergency shelters, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and other shelter solutions to help support the approximately 150 homeless people in La Crosse.

“We are grateful to the community organizations that have invested a lot of time and effort in this area,” Drees said.

The entire council will vote to approve the commission’s allocation of ARPA funds during the Thursday, November 14 city council meeting.
