Shock as Yob breaks into Shipley’s store and steals up

Kathy Tedd has run Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire (JOY) in Westgate, Shipley for over 30 years.

On Wednesday, she was saddened to learn that the store had been targeted by a burglar in the early hours of the morning.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident.

He then fumbles around, finding himself stuck on a clothes rail at one point, before leaving the scene.

“It’s horrible. We’ve had so much to deal with,” Kathy said.

“He threw a concrete block at the laminated glass door, worth around £600. He smashed the glass and pushed the whole frame.

“He then stole the crate and knocked over the shelves, causing us to lose a lot of china.”

The charity provides aid to countries around the world facing disasters.

Kathy and her team are currently preparing a container to go to Yemen.

“Medical supplies are not arriving as quickly as usual. I have to remove this container at the end of July/beginning of August.

“We need wheelchairs, walkers, bandages, cotton, splints, surgical boots and crutches. All cash donations are also welcome.”

Full statement from West Yorkshire Police

A force spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a store in Westgate, Shipley, which was reported at 6.37am on Wednesday, May 22.

“The suspect allegedly entered by breaking a window in the door and fled with a cash register.

“The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, who was wearing a black jacket/hooded top, gray jogging bottoms, black gloves and something covering the lower half of his face. also thought he was wearing a drawstring bag.

“The incident reportedly occurred early Wednesday morning.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Shipley Police on 101 or use the live chat service on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“The crime reference is 13240275567.

“Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.”
