Meet the winners of the EMU Student Government Elections

Meet the winners of the EMU Student Government Elections

After the conclusion of the student government elections in late March, it was announced that Hamzah Dajani and Jack Booth had been elected student body president and vice president of Eastern Michigan University, with Dajani making history as the first student international university to win the prize. position.

Dajani, a finance and accounting major from Amman, Jordan, was sworn in as student body president on April 29, although he is no stranger to the world of student government. He first joined the university as a freshman, serving two years as a senator, where he was later named director of business and finance during the 2023-2024 school year, managing the student government budget and leading the business and finance committee.

Booth, a rising young student, was studying abroad in the Sahara Desert when he learned he had been elected to the position of vice president of the EMU student body. A business major with a minor in Spanish, Booth is in his third year of student government, having served as a senator the past two years.

A member of the Honors College, the Presidential Scholars Association, the Office of Admissions and the EMU Foundation, Booth uses his new position for several different purposes. He hopes to improve students’ connection to campus resources, build meal purchasing power and work with student organizations to promote campus community.

Participating in organizations such as the Eagle Investment Fund, the Financial Management Fund, and the Student Alumni Association, Dajani is deeply interested in how we interact with alumni. He began leading efforts to improve internship and employment opportunities for students, strengthen alumni engagement and connections, and develop a stronger student sports culture.

“Alumni are an integral part of the equation that makes up our university’s success. Building strong networks with them will benefit our current and future students for years to come, more than we can imagine,” Dajani said. “Our students deserve access to the best companies in Michigan and across the country, and we are working diligently to enhance these opportunities.”

Drawing on their experience in student government and their efforts to improve the quality of campus, student life and opportunities, Dajani and Booth are excited about the opportunity to serve as the new president and vice president of EMU student body.

“What excites me most about this position is the platform that allows me to connect with students and faculty across campus so that I can be a voice for change that the campus community ‘EMU needs it,’ Booth said. “I look forward to continuing to serve and hope to connect with everyone soon.”
