Breaking: Urban Meyer was accused of shockingly paying players to come play for his program, according to a big-time college football player he gave a bag of cash to

Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches in college football history. Many people know him for being the head coach at Florida, where he won two national championships with quarterback Tim Tebow, then moved on to Ohio State, where he won another title with quarterback -third-string back Cardale Jones, making him a household name in the sport. But before becoming an elite head coach, he spent time as the wide receivers coach at Notre Dame. While there, he was accused of offering players money to come to South Bend.

In 2000, BJ Johnson was a highly recruited wide receiver in high school and chose to play college football at Texas. However, while he was still being recruited, Meyer suddenly offered him money to come to Notre Dame.

Johnson was on the On Texas Football podcast and mentioned a story that Meyer locked him in a room at his high school and asked him how much money he wanted for him to go to Notre Dame.

Here’s the quote from Longhorns County’s MATT GALATZAN podcast.

“Damn, Urban Meyer locked me in an office at my school, and no bullshit, he asked me straight,” Johnson said in the interview. “He said ‘BJ’ to me. How much?’ And that was while he was at Notre Dame. And it caught me off guard because I just thought we were talking about football. And he said to me: “No, how much? So it continues.

Who knows how true the story is? This happened almost 25 years ago, and Johnson never went to Notre Dame, so he never received any money from Meyer and the Fighting Irish program, so it’s probably nothing. Since Meyer isn’t even coaching college football anymore and college players are allowed to make money through NIL contracts, I’m sure the NCAA won’t go out of its way to investigate this story.

I’m sure there are plenty of stories of players back in the day who were in the same position as Johnson and were recruited by coaches who offered them money, so you may hear more players come out and tell stories they’ve had from other coaches and programs.
