After NEET and UGC-NET row, Bihar TET canceled due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’

Amid the NEET controversy and days after the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, the Bihar Teachers’ Eligibility Test was canceled by the state examination commission, citing “unavoidable circumstances”.

The TET exam, scheduled between June 26 and 28, has been canceled by the Bihar School Examination Board. The state government recruits teachers from primary, secondary and higher schools in Bihar through examination.

The TET postponement comes amid protests over allegations of paper leaks related to the UGC-NET and NEET exams. The NET was canceled ahead of the June 18 exam, due to the Ministry of Education saying its “integrity had been compromised”. Meanwhile, the NEET controversy erupted after irregularities were reported in the results announced on June 4.

As many as 67 NEET candidates secured maximum marks and two students scored statistically ‘impossible’ marks. The National Testing Agency, which organized the exam, defended itself by saying that “grace marks” had been given to more than 1,500 students at six centers due to wasted exam time. But now the Supreme Court has asked the Center to investigate the matter, while the government said a high-level committee would recommend improvements to the NTA.
