Quick actions by neighbors prevent fire from spreading to Loyalsock Township home | News, Sports, Jobs

Quick action by neighbors using a garden hose Sunday evening helped prevent a fire involving a propane-fueled cooking grill from spreading to a Loyalsock Township home just yards away, according to investigators.

The fire at the rear of 1035 Canterbury Road ignited shrubs and the siding of a shed before being stopped with the garden hose and a volunteer firefighter equipped with a portable extinguisher who arrived on scene a few minutes after the fire was brought under control at 8:22 p.m.

The fire was completely extinguished within seven minutes.

Firefighters from the town, town and Montoursville worked together to put out all the hot spots.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental. The grill was in use earlier in the day and it is believed that heat buildup ignited the grill lid once it had been placed on the appliance, investigators said.

Fire damage was limited to the exterior cladding of the hangar, according to firefighters.
