LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Currently, the Animal Foundation has more than 250 animals available for adoption and makes it easy to adopt a pet. Staff hope to free up space at the shelter before the July 4th rush, when they expect an influx of lost pets.

Independence Day fireworks can scare animals and cause them to run away. Last year, the shelter took in nearly 600 animals during the July 4 holiday. According to the shelter, lost dogs are much less likely to find their way back if they are taken to a shelter.

The Animal Foundation is offering to waive adoption fees on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29 for anyone wishing to adopt a pet. You can view some of the animals available for adoption by following this link.

The shelter encourages pet owners to make sure their pet is wearing a collar, tag and microchip. Pet owners can pick up a free collar and ID tag at the Pet Food Pantry located at 655 N. Mojave Road in Maddie’s Lifesaving Center on Sunday, June 30 starting at 11 a.m., while supplies last.
