Chris Jericho makes surprise appearance at CMLL

Chris Jericho made an impromptu visit to Arena Mexico.

At CMLL Super Viernes on Friday, June 28, in Mexico City, Jericho shocked the fans in attendance with a surprise appearance in which he viciously eliminated Mistico.

Mexican superstar Mistico had just teamed with Esfinge and Volador Jr. to defeat Los Infernales and Angel de Oro in a Best Two Out Of Three Falls six-man tag team match when a masked man entered the ring to put him down off-side. The mystery attacker knocked out Mistico with the Judas Effect before revealing himself to be AEW’s star.

After the attack, Jericho challenged Mistico, saying:

Mistico I challenge you anytime, anywhere and anytime. You say the word.

You call Arena Mexico your home, thirty years ago Arena Mexico was my home and I’m coming back to take my home away from you.

In response to the attack and challenge, Mistico posted on social media stating:

I am always ready for those who come and I leave with everything 😡👊🏾

The two will meet at CMLL’s July 5 show at Arena Mexico but could face off earlier. Both stars will perform at Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 30.

Jericho, Big Bill and a mystery partner will face the team of Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata and Hook on the PPV main card, while Mistico will team with the Lucha Bros against Yota Tsuji, Titan and Hiromu Takahashi on the Zero pre-show Hour.

Chris Jericho isn’t the first AEW star to make a surprise appearance on a CMLL show.

At the CMLL x NJPW Fantastica Mania festival on June 21 at Arena Mexico in Mexico City, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone surprised Mexican fans by facing her opponent from Forbidden Door.

On the show, Mone confronted and then brawled with Stephanie Vaquer, whom she faced in a Winner Takes All match for the TBS Championship and the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.

The cross-promotional PPV will see a NJPw star compete for the TNT Championship in a Ladder Match.
