Iran set for 2024 Asian U20 Women’s Volleyball Championship

TEHRAN – Iran is all set to participate in the 22nd Asian U20 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

The tournament will bring together China, Hong Kong, Australia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, India, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Iran, New Zealand, Vietnam and Thailand in Jiangmen, China, from July 1 to 8.

Group A includes China, Kazakhstan and Australia, while Japan, India and Hong Kong, China are in Group B. Thailand, Vietnam and Iran are in Group C, while that Group D includes Korea, Chinese Taipei and New Zealand.

Since the championship’s inception in 1980, China has won 12 titles, while Japan has won seven, including the previous two editions in 2018 and 2022. Korea won one in 1980. The 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the previous edition in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan, two years ago, Japan stunned China in three sets in the final showdown to successfully defend their title, while Thailand beat Korea 3- 2 to win the bronze medal.

A total of 12 teams will compete for first place and four spots will be up for grabs for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship.

Padideh Bolourizadeh will lead the Iranian team in the tournament.
