Lea Salonga and Dolly de Leon to star in “Request sa Radyo”

Two of the world’s most acclaimed Philippine stage stars — Lea Salonga and Dolly de Leon — will star in “Request sa Radyo” (“Wunschkonzert/Request Program”), a play by Franz Xaver Kroetz.

“Request sa Radyo” is a landmark play that captures the poignant loneliness of a woman through her meticulous evening routine. As she navigates her quiet, solitary life, her actions and her favorite radio program reveal the deep loneliness and desire for connection that lies beneath.

This masterpiece of modern theater transforms the mundane into a powerful exploration of isolation and the human condition and leaves audiences contemplating the depths of loneliness long after the curtain has fallen.

Salonga and de Leon will perform the piece solo in scheduled alternating performances.

“When Clint and Bobby asked me if I was interested in this project, an experiment that tells a probable and possible story that absolutely applies to our people, I said yes, even before knowing the details. It will be a challenge, but I hope it gives a figurative voice to those who are suffering,” Salonga said in a statement.

De Leon also expressed his excitement: “I am so looking forward to returning to my first love, theater after five long years and I am equally excited that it is in Request Sa Radyo – a relevant and timely play.”

The strictly limited engagement with 20 performances will begin on October 10 until October 20 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.

Request Sa Radyo is produced by Clint Ramos, Bobby Garcia and Christopher Mohnani for Ayala Land and GMG Productions.
