Brandon Aiyuk frustrated as 49ers contract offer details leak – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Since John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan arrived in Santa Clara, the 49ers have eliminated information leaked outside the building.

This was the case until recently.

Earlier this month, Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the team had offered Brandon Aiyuk an extension with an annual salary of around $26 million. The second-team All-Pro was recently on “The Pivot Podcast” and discussed his emotions over the details being made public.

“It’s a little frustrating, especially when it gets down to details like that,” Aiyuk said. “It’s like establishing exact numbers during negotiations between the team and my team. We are trying to resolve things, to resolve a lot of things. »

“So for actual numbers and stuff like that to come out, I think it’s a little bit, I thought it was a little bit disrespectful, a little unfair to me, but that’s part of the problem. That’s part of it.

Aiyuk was frustrated enough to want to tell his side of the story, but it’s likely Lynch and Shanahan were equally frustrated to see the information get out to the public. The organization has prided itself on its success in cutting off the leaks it was known for before she took over in 2017.

“That’s just the way it is,” Aiyuk said. “It’s foul play. It’s foul play, so I feel like for me, social media is a way for me and my team to showcase myself and showcase what I’m trying to achieve because it’s a way to get the message out. It’s a way to get the facts out. And facts are facts. So if I’m putting facts out there, they’re facts.”

The two sides had been at an impasse since the end of the season, prompting Aiyuk to skip mandatory minicamp, even though the former first-round pick has racked up fines of more than $100,000.

Last week, Aiyuk seemed ready to move forward, taking the initiative to schedule a meeting with Lynch and Shanahan at team headquarters. The receiver reported on social media that the meeting went well and that the two sides were expected to meet again soon.

Aiyuk filmed himself entering the parking lot of the team’s facility on Friday, but it’s unclear whether or not the two sides are getting closer to a deal.

“Throughout this process, there were times when we were very close,” Aiyuk said. “I felt like I was telling people, saying, ‘Hey, let me get my wetsuit ready.’ I’m ready. I’ll take her back to the bay. I need to get started on signing this contract immediately. »

“Then there are days and times, like over the last month, where you could say, yeah, we’re pretty far apart.”

A second meeting is a positive sign for both sides, but the specific details of the salary remaining confidential will be a necessity for Aiyuk and the team to remain on viable terms.
