The Temple announced a $1 million capital campaign to fund three major areas of the historic building in downtown Salina.

The funds will be used to construct two new elevators, ADA-compliant restrooms and air conditioning in the theater.

The Salina Innovation Foundation (DBA The Temple) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that thanks to the generosity of area private donors and foundations, they have already passed the halfway point of the campaign.
“I am optimistic that our fundraising will be successful,” said board president Rodney Denholm. “These projects will allow Temple to serve more members of the community throughout the year.”

In addition to the capital project, Executive Director Mary Landes said that as a historic landmark, the Temple received historic tax credits, meaning up to 30 percent of the project costs will be reimbursed by Kansas State.
“The tax credits will provide additional operating capital and contribute to further improvements to the Temple,” Landes said.

Thanks to the generous support of the Earl Bane Foundation and the Dane Hansen Foundation, in addition to major donations from individuals, the ADA restrooms and first elevator replacement are already underway.
“It means a lot to the Temple community,” Landes said. “We currently have 22 companies and regular requests for our coworking space. These improvements will allow us to open more spaces to the community. »

Additional fundraisers will take place throughout the summer and fall. Public events and a direct mail campaign are also in the works.
