SAAC announces its leaders for 2024-25

CHENEY, Washington — With the academic year nearly over, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named its officers for 2024-25.

During the next academic year, Rhiannon Davies will serve as SAAC president. Women’s basketball Breeje Schuler will serve as vice president.

In addition to her titles, Davies was named to serve as the Big Sky’s national representative for Division I SAAC.

Davies spoke about her reasons for choosing to run for SAAC president: “What prompted me to run for president was the need to continue what I Grace Terrill and the rest of our SAAC Executive Committee started last year. Since joining SAAC two years ago, I have seen us grow in our community presence and shape our culture around the student-athlete experience. We started the movement, but many of our key members are starting new chapters in their lives. It is up to all of us to continue the traditions we have started and implement new ones. Being president gives me the opportunity to do just that.”

Davies is entering her senior year and competes for the cross country and track and field teams. She primarily competed in the 800m and 4x400m events during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Schuler, who will be a junior next season, has appeared in 17 games this season playing 5.1 minutes per game.

Cheer’s Brayden Thrift will serve as SAAC secretary, while Katelyn Storme will serve as alumni coordinator. Thrift will be a sophomore this fall and Strome will be a senior.

Women’s football occupies two positions next year, as Ryanne Ampi will work as SAAC Events Coordinator, with Sage reed work as a social media coordinator.

Ampi will be a junior in the fall and she has made three starts and appeared in 12 games, totaling 454 minutes of playing time as a defender. Reed, who is preparing for her sophomore season, has started 13 games with 17 appearances, recording one assist and three shots in 2023.

With new leadership in place, Davies has a clear vision of what she wants to accomplish in the upcoming academic year: “Our primary goal will be to streamline communication across the university, the Big Sky and the NCAA. We want to reach as many points on campus as possible and create cohesion between students, faculty and athletes. This will include working with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, while also encouraging Eagles pride in athletics and the classroom. We want our athletes’ voices to extend beyond campus. As president, my goal is to have our athletes share their ideas with other universities. This will allow us to learn from our athletic competitors to improve the student-athlete experience.”
