BYD electric supercar caught on radar at Nürburgring. Want to beat the Rimac Nevera record?

Jakarta – The BYD Yangwang U9 electric supercar has been filmed testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. The exotically designed model appears to be speeding with a camouflage sticker.

During the CarBuzz launch on Tuesday, July 2, the car was filmed by YouTube channel CarSpyMedia. This raises the question of why the supercar was wrapped in camouflage when the Yangwang U9 was unveiled to the public. However, in this image capture, the car is seen accelerating and braking optimally.

Moreover, it is still unclear why BYD is testing this supercar on the legendary track. It is possible that this Chinese manufacturer intends to break Rimac Nevera’s fastest lap record as the fastest electric vehicle.

In mid-2023, Rimac Nevera set a record as the fastest production electric car around the Nürburgring with a record time of 7:05.298 driven by Croatian driver Martin Kodric.

Speaking of performance, the BYD Yangwang U9 is equipped with four electric motors with 1,287 dk and 1,680 Nm torque or less than the Rimac Nevera reaching 1,888 dk and 2,360 Nm torque.

Previously, BYD had managed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds with a top speed of 309 km/h. Its Croatian rival, on the other hand, did it in just 1.82 seconds with a top speed of 412 km/h.

However, the Yangwang U9 has one special feature: it uses BYD’s self-developed Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The battery has a capacity of 80 kWh capable of providing a range of up to 465 km according to CLTC standards. The system also supports 500 kW of fast charging and simultaneous dual charging.

The Yangwang U9 is equipped with BYD’s self-developed Disus X intelligent suspension system. This system allows cars to maneuver with agility, including “dancing” and moving with only three wheels.

The car was sold in the Chinese market at a price of 1.68 million yuan (IDR 3.7 billion). BYD will deliver the Yangwang U9 unit in mid-2024.
