Bake’n Bacon: A One-of-a-Kind Bacon-Inspired Restaurant in Philadelphia

If you love bacon, there’s a place in South Philadelphia that offers a one-of-a-kind bacon experience.

Justin Coleman and Calvin Alexander are New Jersey entrepreneurs who decided to branch out into the restaurant business after owning two food trucks.

“I woke up one morning and thought, ‘We should open a restaurant,’” said Coleman, owner of Bake’n Bacon. “Our goal was to have a third food truck, but instead we got the restaurant.”

The inspiration for the bacon-themed restaurant comes from Coleman’s late brother.

“My younger brother passed away in 2016. He visited me in a dream and gave me the idea for Bake n’ Bacon,” Coleman said. “It was like my mission was to figure out what bacon meant and how I could incorporate it.”

Coleman was able to honor his brother with menu items such as bacon hangers, bacon burgers, and bacon mashed potatoes. However, they promise to have options for all types of diets.

“People think that because we’re called Bake’n Bacon, we only sell bacon and that’s not true,” he said.

Coleman and Alexander agree that opening a restaurant after having their food trucks was difficult but worth it.

“The food truck is a little easier, a little simpler,” Coleman said. “It’s still a lot of work for a food truck, but a restaurant is a whole different beast. It’s a behemoth, for sure. We still have to navigate, figure out how to maneuver everything.”
