A traffic stop at the corner of Ninth Street and Whipple Avenue resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics.

On May 26, a Cañon City police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Angelina Madison, 34, who had a suspended driver’s license. During the traffic stop, CCPD’s police dog Kasio performed an open-air search that alerted the vehicle to the possible presence of narcotics, according to a news release. Officers then searched the vehicle and found 1,641 fentanyl pills, 105.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 5 grams of black heroin.

Madison was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a Schedule I controlled substance – more than 4 grams, a Class 4 drug felony; unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance – more than 4 grams, a Class 4 drug felony; unlawful possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, a drug misdemeanor; unlawful distribution of a Schedule I controlled substance, a Class 2 drug felony; unlawful distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance, a Class 3 drug felony; unlawful distribution of a Schedule I controlled substance, a Class 4 drug felony; possession of an illegal weapon, a Class 1 misdemeanor; special offender; criminal possession of an identification document, a Class 6 felony; and operating a vehicle while restrained, a misdemeanor.
