A woman was pepper sprayed at the Safeway located at 500 S. Royal Street Saturday night (June 29) while trying to stop two suspected shoplifters.

Alexandria police said the 40-year-old victim tried to intervene when two female suspects tried to leave the store without paying. One of the suspects then sprayed the woman in the face.

No arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions have been released. Anyone with information can call the Alexandria Police Department’s non-emergency number at 703-746-4444. Callers can remain anonymous.
