Traffic stop in Winterhaven leads to multiple criminal charges

“On 6/21/24 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Winterhaven Division conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was not wearing a seat belt and was traveling at excessive speed. A vehicle registration check showed that the driver’s license was suspended.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, a loaded, unregistered firearm was found.

The suspect was charged with several crimes including: possession of a concealed and loaded firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of ammunition by an inadmissible person.

This stop is an example of how a simple infraction can quickly turn into multiple misdemeanors. Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies are committed to keeping our streets safe and holding people accountable for their actions.
