Terrifying machete attack caught on camera

Horrific video has revealed the moment a business owner was attacked by a group of masked men wielding a machete and baseball bat inside his store.

Police allege a group of five men wearing balaclavas and masks burst into the store on Christina Rd in Villawood, in Sydney’s west, before 9.45pm on July 4.

CCTV footage from the business shows two men holding a machete and a baseball bat before dragging the business owner out from behind his desk.

As the 62-year-old lies on the ground, two of the masked men can be seen repeatedly punching him and kicking him in the head.

The group of men are believed to have stolen money from the business before fleeing in a hatchback.

Police said the men had also been involved in a violent home invasion in Chester Hill two hours earlier.

Bankstown Acting Commander Darren Sly said the group forced their way into a Judith St home and assaulted a 28-year-old male occupant before stealing two mobile phones.

CCTV footage from a nearby house shows the men entering the house with their heads down before fleeing in a hurry minutes later.

The 28-year-old resident was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Police allege the men used the same blue Holden Barina and wore the same clothing during the two alleged violent armed robberies.

Police spotted the getaway car with two people inside while patrolling around 10:45 p.m.

The couple fled, but a 19-year-old man allegedly brandished his machete at police as he fled the scene.

The machete was later abandoned as police chased him, and the 19-year-old was eventually arrested after police scaled fences and backyards.

“The police efforts were remarkable last night in difficult conditions,” Detective Sly said.

The 19-year-old was denied bail after being charged with aggravated break and enter, serious trespass and theft in public.

Police also arrested a 16-year-old in a nearby backyard and charged him with suspected stolen personal property (no motor vehicle), reckless dealing in proceeds of crime, and receiving and possessing a prohibited drug.

The two men in custody were not cooperating, Detective Sly said.

Police are still searching for the three other men believed to have been involved in the violent crime spree.

They have seized the Barina and are appealing to anyone with information about the three people who escaped police to come forward.

“Surrender before the police come knocking,” Detective Sly said.

“Their actions are clearly cowardly.”
